How To Clean Retractable Fly Screens

Cleaning and maintaining your retractable fly screens is important to keep them moving along their tracks smoothly and in good working condition.

The Fly screen mesh in retractable fly screens will trap airborne contaminants such as dust & salt as air flows through the screen.  Regular cleaning of your retractable flyscreens will remove these airborne contaminants & will keep your screens looking & performing their best.

Cleaning the Fly Screen Mesh 

Fly Screen mesh is best cleaned with either a furniture duster, a soft bristled brush or the furniture brush attachment (soft nozzle brush) on your vacuum cleaner. Although it is ok to carefully stretch the mesh to get into the fly screen folds, extreme care should be taken to not rip or tear the mesh.

Cleaning the Frame & Tracks on Retractable Fly Screens

Over time dirt, dust and other airborne pollutants will rest in the top, bottom, and side channel frame on your retractable fly screens.  Retractable flyscreen frames should be cleaned every six months to remove any build up, protect the finish, and ensure the smooth movement of the retractable screen.  In dusty areas where pollutants are more prevalent; especially in coastal, red dirt or industrial regions, cleaning should be carried out monthly.

• Fully retract the flyscreen
• Remove any loose dust or debris with a soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner (using the soft brush nozzle)
• Carefully remove any remaining deposits with a wet sponge.
• Remove any deposits still stuck to the frame with a soft non-abrasive brush or cloth, and mild household detergent solution to remove.
• Finally, wipe over with an absorbent chamois cloth to prevent water marks from forming.

IMPORTANT: Under no circumstances should you use steel wool, scourer pads, abrasive based cleaners, scouring liquids and powders, or caustic solutions as these will cause permanent damage to the finish and void the warranty.
